Performance and installations. A transformative exhibition project in Vaduz, Konstanz, Zürich, Bern and Sierre 2010 and 2011

The performance art hat got through many transformations since the last 30 years. From the co-presence of the body with the audience in a more theatrical and actionist way in the 1970ties and 1980ties, performance got more medial, conceptual and toward spatial installation within the last 10 years. In 2003, a exhibition in Innsbruck, Wien, Leipzig and Köln search the notion of the ‘performative installation’ around the thesis, that many installations in contemporary art grow from actions in the social context or from performance action in the sence of Judith Butler.

The exhibition projects In the belly of the whale wants to search the medias of performance and installation by the notion of ‘transformation’ from one medium to the other and by conceptual and poetical thinking between the two media. Every artist invited has at least to events in order to transform his work from one location to the other.

The project involves therefore 5 different exhibition spaces:

The idea of the exhibition started in Vaduz in June 2010 (opening 28th of may 2010, finissage 18 of July 2010)  is to transform the format of the show itself by performance and installation settings of 13 artists through these 5 locations, involving for every location a different of artists, but joining them together in the end. The project will end in August 2011. Every artist will be involved at two sites.

The artists that to be asked to join the project with performance or installation are:
